Ava Mabrey, 98, of Marion

130708-mabreyAva Mabrey, age 98, a lifelong resident of Marion County, went to be with the Lord on Saturday evening, July 6, 2013.  She recently celebrated her 98th birthday on the same day as her sister, June Graham, who just turned 100.

On June 24, 1915, Ava was born in Green Camp, Ohio, one of four children of the late Harry and Ora (Zieg) Beaver.  She was graduated from Green Camp High School in the Class of 1935.

A loving homemaker, Ava always made sure her family was well taken care of.  She also did whatever she had to to make ends meet, which she did by caring for the homes of elderly, helping them stay at home and independent as long as possible.

A woman of faith, Ava was a member of the Fairpark Baptist Church.  Formerly, she had been a member of the Green Camp Reform Church, and she also had attended the Mt. Vernon Ave. Church of Christ with her daughter.

With a love for music, Ava’s favorite thing in life to do was dance.  She was a good spirited and bubbly woman, who danced whenever she could, often showing up the younger dancers at Seton Square.

She will be dearly missed by her three children: Maxine (Frank) Cohrs, Ray (Diann) Mabrey, and Sharon Salyer, all three of Marion; seven grandchildren: Ricky (Lori) Williams, Randy (Cindy) Williams, Ron (Sunny) Williams, Fred Williams, Debbie Jennings, Stephanie Mabrey, and Kimberly (Rob) Andrescik; three step-grandchildren;14 great-grandchildren: Tim, Scott, Joey, Brittany, Andrew, Robby, and Christina Williams, Jordan Hahn, Haley and Alexa Mabrey, and Sarah and Noah Andrescik; seven step-great grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild; a sister, June Graham of Marion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Ava was preceded in death by two infant sons: Gary and Ronald Mabrey; and two sisters: Ruth Aikin and Jean Beaver.

Her family will greet friends from 10 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at the Fairpark Baptist Church, 940 Bermuda Dr., Marion.  Services celebrating her life and homecoming will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Kenneth Durtsche officiating.  Burial will then follow in Green Camp Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairpark Baptist Church, c/o Sign Fund (address above).
