Kristin Reed of Marion was named Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival 2013 during popcorn royalty festivities Saturday evening, August 3, at Harding High School. She won a $100 cash award, a crown sponsored by Goldrush Jewelers, banner and prize package.
“Overwhelmed” and “Surprised” were the words 47-year-old Reed used to describe her emotions when she heard her name called. “I was just so very happy they called number five, my contestant number. My friends were like, ‘You’re really going to enter?’” continued an animated Reed. “Who woulda thought I win?!”
Reed also garnered the Popcorn-wear Award with her popcorn adorned Mary “Pop”pins. The owner and stylist of Studio 309, Reed and her husband, Vince, have two children, Khayla and Karington.
First runner up was Stacy Hines, who also captured the Interview, and People’s Choice awards. From Waldo, Hines is an income tax account specialist with the City of Delaware. She and her husband, Scott, have three children Courtnie, Caden, and Cloie.
Tammy Harrison nabbed the second runner-up position. She, her husband, Joe, and three children, Ranissa, Joseph, and Christian, live in Harpster. Harrison is a production technician at M-Tek.
Each runner-up received a banner and prize package. Also participating were:
Jana Pelter of Nevada took home the Eveningwear Award. She is a lead associate at Jeffery Jewelry of Upper Sandusky.
Vanessa Callis of Delaware walked off with the Photogenic Award. She and her husband, Cody, are the parents of Anthony and Lilly. She is an account coordinator at Pacer Global Logistics.
Danielle Twigg of Marion is the mother of three children, Dustin, Alex and Lindsey. Twigg is employed by Frontier Communications as a community service specialist.

Each of the contestants participated in Eveningwear, an Interview session, Popcorn Wear, and an on-stage question. Director Marianne Curry was “very pleased” with all the contestants’ efforts.
The awards for the contestants were sponsored by The Ohio State University-Marion, Marion Community Credit Union, Richwood Bank, Bluefusion Entertainment, Kirby Auto Parts, Preferred Popcorn, The Family of Steve Somerlot, Carol Ault’s Dance Factory, Goldrush Jewelers, Hemmerlys, Mauk Chiropractic, and Dr. Bob Singh.
Main stage entertainment for 2013 includes WANTED: The Bon Jovi Tribute Band on Thursday, September 5; iconic group The Village People on Friday, September 6, and country artist Jo Dee Messina on Saturday, September 7. All performances on the Festival’s main stage begin at 8:30 p.m. and are free of charge.
