Clippers Beat Mud Hens 6-3

Columbus ClippersAfter a four run first inning, the Clippers never looked back as they doubled up Toledo 6-3 at Fifth Third Field.

The Clippers jumped all over Mud Hens starter Jair Jurrjens in the top of the first. Ezequiel Carrera started the offensive onslaught with an RBI single. Jeremy Hermida drove home another run with an RBI double. The inning was capped by RBI singles by Juan Diaz and Matt Carson as Columbus leaped out to a 4-0 lead.

The Hens would cut the deficit half in the next few innings. Nick Castellanos plated a run with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. Argenis Diaz then drove home another tally for the Hens with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the second. Fortunately for Columbus, Roberto Perez got both of those runs back with a two run double off the left field wall in the top of the third.

The Hens would score another run in the sixth on a Kevin Russo fielder’s choice, but that would be it as Columbus came away with the win. T.J. House (W, 5-10) received the victory for the Clippers. Jurrjens (L, 0-1) was tagged with the loss. Preston Guilmet (S, 18) tallied the save for Columbus .

The series will shift back to Huntington Park on Tuesday night. Columbus will send righty Trevor Bauer (5-4, 3.82) to the hill. The Hens will tap the services of lefty Jose Alvarez (7-5, 2.68). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
