Robert J. “Bob” Lyons, 65, of Edison

Robert J. “Bob” LyonsRobert J. “Bob” Lyons, age 65, of Edison, passed away on Saturday evening, August 3, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Bob was born in Columbus on October 10, 1947. He is the son of the late Winfield I. S. “Is” and Mildred M. (Stought) Lyons. He attended Millersport High School through his Junior year and graduated from North High School in Columbus in the class of 1965.

One year later, Bob enlisted in the United State Air Force. While in the Air Force he served as Air Police. Though he volunteered to go to Vietnam, he was placed on base guarding B-52 bombers at K I Sawyer Air Force Base in Michigan.

Shortly after being honorably discharged from the Air Force he married the love of his life. On July 14, 1967, in Newark, OH, Bob married Pamela Jo Hughes. Together they raised one child and just recently celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.

Bob worked for 10 years as a truck driver with John Deere. He also worked for 5 years as an electronics salesman for Wedemeyer Electronics Supply based in Michigan.

An avid outdoorsman, Bob had a true passion for hunting and archery. Often you could find him hunting deer and even squirrel on his 4-wheeler. When he was not out riding, you could find him in his garage piddling around. Though he didn’t always know what he was going to get into, he always ended up with some creation whether it be from wood, metal, or whatever he had laying around.

Bob was known for his big heart. Though he could be ornery at times, he was very charismatic and generous. Just recently he gifted kids at the Hospice Grief Camp with special coins. He also loved being around his family and all of the various activities they did together.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of 46 years, Pam J. Lyons; his daughter, Wendy Lyons (Jim Matney) of Pickerington, OH; his brother Charles Lyons of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Anthony “A.J.” and Sam Butzer, and Brooklyn Matney; and a niece, Amanda (Ret. Lieutenant Colonial Matthew) Warner of Catawba, OH.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marie Powell; and a sister-in-law, Terrie Lyons.

Per Bob’s wishes, no services will be held. Burial will take place at a later time in Riverside Cemetery in Columbus.

If so desired, memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Morrow County, 228 South Street, Mount Gilead, OH 43338.

Snyder Funeral Homes of Mount Gilead are honored to have been chosen to serve Bob’s family and your private condolences may be expressed to them by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.
