The Columbus bats were no match for Toledo lefty Jose Alvarez as the Mud Hens triumphed over the Clippers 4-1 at Huntington Park.
Toledo was the first to crack the scoreboard when Mike Cervenak cranked a two run shot into the left field bleachers in the top of the third. An inning later, Ben Guez blasted a solo shot over the left center field wall.
Matt LaPorta would get the Clippers on the board with a solo homer in the seventh, but the Hens got that run back with a Danny Dorn solo jack in the eighth.
Toledo lefty Jose Alvarez (W, 8-5) was sharp in seven innings, limiting Columbus to one run on five hits while striking out five in the process. Trevor Bauer (L, 5-5) got hit with the loss for the Clippers. Jose Valverde (S, 7). Nailed down the win for the Mud Hens.
The Clippers will conclude their two city, five game series with the Mud Hens on Wednesday night. Righty Joe Martinez (2-6, 5.89) will get the start on the mound for Columbus. Toledo will elect to go with right-hander Shawn Hill (3-12, 5.48). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
