Mud Hens Beat Clippers 9-6

The Mud Hens did just enough with the bat as they won a 9-6 slugfest against Columbus at Huntington Park.

The Mud Hens’ bats went straight to work to begin this game. Jordan Lennerton got Toledo on the board with a two run homer in the top of the first. The third would also be a productive frame for the Hens. Nick Castellanos plated a run with an RBI single and Ben Guez contributed with a two run single which gave Toledo a commanding 5-0 lead.

That Hens advantage would quickly evaporate in the bottom of the third. Tim Fedroff drove home a run with an RBI single. The very next batter, Matt LaPorta, blasted a three run homer into the left field bleachers, making it 5-4.

Toledo would get one of those runs back with another Guez RBI single in the top of the fifth. They then plated three more runs in the top of the sixth on RBI doubles by Lennerton and Castellanos and an RBI single by Cervenak.

Chun Chen sent a ball over the wall in the bottom of the sixth to make it a 9-5 affair. Nate Spears would later score on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to make a three run game, but that’s as close as the Clippers could get as Toledo came away with the win. Shawn Hill (W, 4-12) got the win for the Hens. Joe Martinez (L, 2-7) was dealt the loss for Columbus. Jose Ortega(S, 3) tallied the save in the ninth for Toledo.

The home-stand continues for Columbus as they welcome in the Louisville Bats on Thursday night. Daisuke Matsuzaka (4-6, 3.80) will get the start for the Clippers. The bats will counter with righty Chad Rogers (4-2, 3.32). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
