Indianapolis Downs Clippers 5-4

A three run ninth inning for Indianapolis stunned the Clippers who would go on to lose 5-4 in eleven innings at Victory Field.

The Clippers struck in the top of the first with RBI singles by Chun Chen and Ryan Rohlinger. The hit parade continued in the top of the second with a Matt LaPorta RBI single.

Indianapolis would get on the board in the fifth on a Lucas May RBI groundout. It was the only earned run scored upon Columbus righty Joe Martinez, who struck out three in 5 2/3 innings. Nate Spears later added an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

The Indians would score three runs in the ninth off of Clippers reliever Vinnie Pestano on a Lucas May two run single and an RBI single by Ivan DeJesus. Indianapolis later won the game in the eleventh frame on an Ali Solis RBI single. Vic Black (W, 3-2) got the win for Indy. Matt Langwell (L, 3-4) was saddled with the loss for Columbus.

The Clippers and Indians will be back at it at Victory Field on Wednesday night. Japanese right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka (5-6, 3.61) will start on the mound for Columbus. Indianapolis will counter with righty Graham Godfrey (4-4, 4.50). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
