Gladys “Sue” Christian, 66, of Marion

Gladys “Sue” Christian, age 66, of Marion, died October 24, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Sue was born on April 24, 1947, in Columbus, Ohio, one of eight children of the late Charles and Garnet (Adams) Williams. When she was two years old, the family moved to Thurman, Ohio, where she spent her childhood.

In April of 1963, Sue met, fell in love and later, on November 24th of that year, married Larry Christian. Together they shared nearly 50 years of marriage, recently having renewed their vows, and lovingly raising six sons.

In 1976, Larry, Sue and family moved to Marion, where Sue went back to school at Marion Technical College to earn her associates degree in computer programming. She put that degree to use as a technical support person for Macola Software in Marion.

A strong woman of faith, Sue was a member of the Harvest Christian Community Church in Pickerington, and formerly she was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God. She also dedicated herself to reading the Bible as often as she could.

When she wasn’t keeping her husband and sons in line, Sue enjoyed the peace and quiet of sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting.

She will forever be remembered for her fearlessness, strength, and dedication to her family and her Lord and Savior.

She will be missed by her five sons: Paul of Key Largo, Florida, Tom (Suzii) of Marion, Mike (fiancé Megan Anderson) of Columbus, Joseph (Kaylee) of Fairmont, West Virginia, and Phil (Allysia) of Marion and her 13 grandchildren: Emily and Xander Christian, Josh and Corey Snyder, Ben and Ryan Drake, Josh Christian, Keira Christian, Shanele Smalley, Jaiden and Chloe Hoffer, Jesse and Joel Christian as well as her three great-grandchildren: Madison and Jaxon Snyder and Savannah Drake.

Sue is also survived by eight brothers and sisters: Juanita (Charles) Putney of Plumwood, Chuck (Faye) Williams of Thurman, Mary Schultz of Marion, Wendell (Sandy) Williams of Greer, South Carolina, Clarice (Roger) Pace of Harrogate, Tennessee, Mark Williams of Marion, Steve (Sharon) Williams of Marion, and Nora Sayre of LaRue; and a plethora of nieces and nephews.

Including her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her oldest son, Larry Allen.

The Christian family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St. in Marion. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Thursday the 31st at 10 a.m. with Pastor Ed Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens after which, the family will host a fellowship at Dayspring Church at 2431 Marion-Mt Gilead Road in Marion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
