Rev. William J. Wheeler Sr., age 66 of Marengo returned to his heavenly father on September 29, 2010 surrounded by his family.
He was born on February 20, 1944 in Salyersville, Kentucky to the late Lester and Ethel (Cantrell) Wheeler. A graduate of Magoffin County High School, he served in the US Navy.
For the past 35 years he has been a resident of the Marengo area and had worked at Tecumseh and Sunray Stoves.
A man of deep faith he served as a minister for the Church of God of Mt Assembly on Parson’s Ave. in Columbus. Hardworking and energetic, he loved people and sharing in good conversation. Always honest and dependable, he was an avid gardener who took pleasure in sharing the fruits of his vast garden. He took pleasure in grafting and growing fruit trees. He was happiest in the garden and sharing the word of God.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years: Dorothy (Sprague), treasured children; William (Stacey) Wheeler Jr. of Marengo, Bob Wheeler of Fulton, Mary “Janie” (Brad) Jordan of Marengo, Timothy A. (Lindsay) Wheeler of Salyersville, KY, 8 Grandchildren: Bobby, Jordan, Zackary, Brittany, Thomas, Sarah, Andrew, Jacob, Brothers: Paul, Morris, Arnold, Larry, Lowell, Lindsey, Jimmy Wheeler, Sisters: Judy Howard, Lavern Crace, and a host of extended family.
Also preceded in death by brothers: Randal and Henry.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury. A service giving glory to God for the life of William Wheeler will be held 12:00 noon Saturday at the Pentecostal Church of God, 1101 Obetz Rd., Columbus, OH 43207, with Rev’s Mark Hatfield and John Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
