John Allen Crampton, 39, of Marion

On March 14, 1974 at 5:47 PM, John Allen Crampton was born to Jerry and Barbara (Decker) Crampton.

Throughout his life he enjoyed being active and spending time with his friends. John played football and baseball during his school years. He also enjoyed skateboarding with many of his friends.

As John entered adulthood, he began his life with the birth of his son; Trey Crampton on October 14, 1992. John went on to marry the love of his life; Shannon Marie on August 24, 2001.

John and Shannon enjoyed watching football together and sharing some friendly competition between each other as he was an avid Detroit Lions fan and she was a true Tennessee Titan fan. John and Shannon shared two beautiful daughters together; Brittany Marie Crampton came into their lives on March 11, 1998 and was followed by Shey Marie Crampton on March 14, 2006.

John and Shannon worked side by side for 14 years at KFC in Marion where he was the manager and Shannon was the assistant manager.

John had a love for animals, especially dogs. His sidekick was a Jack Russell Terrier named Buckeye. John shared his love for animals with other dogs he had adopted including King Crampton, Princess, Gabby, Stormy and Scooby.

John’s best friend; Luke Whitaker stood by his side through the good and bad times. He was a true friend. During numerous late night card games, OSU parties and pay per view wrestling events, you could find John and Luke competitively harassing each other as only brothers would.

In March of 2010, John began a battle with cancer. During this time, John reconnected with the Lord at the Berean Baptist Church with the assistance of both Pastor Reed and Pastor Peria. Throughout the next three years, John upheld the greatest determination to fight against this disease.

On Thursday, November 7, 2013 John passed away at the Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio while surrounded by family and friends.

Shannon and John’s family would like to extend our sincerest thanks to all of the staff at Kobacker House as they were supportive and attentive to John and every member of his family. We would also like to thank Jared and Christine who were RN’s that cared for John during his hospital stay.

John was preceded in death by his grandfather; Orville Decker and grandmother; Leontine Crampton. He is survived by his grandmother; Grace Karbula, two sisters; Danielle (Chris) Chesser and Miranda (Jeffery) Stapleton as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Berean Baptist Church. If desired, memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made directly to his family. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hughes-Allen Funeral Home.
