Merle G. Wilson age 88 of Mansfield, Ohio and a former Marion, Ohio resident, passed away Saturday November 30, 2013 at Sterling House of Mansfield, Ohio.
He was born February 23, 1925 in Marion to the late Platoff O. and Mable (Troup) Wilson.
In 1964 he married Ruth (Staats) Horn and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2012.
Merle was retired as a Welder after 37 years with the Marion Metal Products Company. He also was a member of the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses of Marion, Ohio.
Merle was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, member of the 90th Infantry Division and was in the Battle of the Bulge and five major battles. He was awarded the Bronze Star Metal.
Merle is survived by two sons; Willard “Bill” (Janice) Horn of Mansfield, Ohio, and Charles Wilson of Louisiana. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers; Eileen Columber, Phyllis Bender, Elaine Jones, and Curtis, Robert, James, and Lemoine Wilson.
A Graveside Burial Service for Merle will take place at a later date in the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge, Ohio in Marion County.
