Pelanda to Run for Re-Election to Ohio House

Dorothy PelandaState Representative Dorothy Pelanda (R-Marysville) today announced her candidacy to serve as representative of the 86th House District—which includes all of Union County and portions of Marion County—during the 131st General Assembly.

“I would be truly honored to continue serving the residents of the 86th District in the Statehouse, especially as we work to address Ohio’s most critical issues,” said Rep. Pelanda. “I will continue to put Ohioans first and work hard to ensure that our business climate encourages economic growth. This has been my number-one priority while serving in the Ohio House, and I will continue to fight to make our communities a better place to live, work and raise a family.”

“Dorothy Pelanda has been an outstanding member of the House Republican Caucus and has always put her constituents first,” said Chairman of the Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee Matt Huffman (R-Lima). “She is a brilliant lawyer and legislator. Few people understand the 86th District better than Representative Pelanda and she has demonstrated her commitment to her district during her entire time in the legislature.”

“It has truly been a privilege to work with Representative Pelanda and to have her knowledge of law and family issues benefit all Ohioans,” said Speaker of the Ohio House William G. Batchelder (R-Medina). “She has the full support of the Republican Caucus and more than deserves the opportunity to serve her constituents for another term.”

In addition to supporting numerous measures to help small businesses and lower taxes, she has sponsored numerous bills, including legislation to:

·      Provide educational stability for abused or neglected children by releasing their school records to another district while institutions decide which entity is responsible for educating the child. House Bill 14 passed with unanimous support and was signed into law by Governor Kasich.

·      Allow all adult adoptees to access their original birth certificates, a bill that addresses current disparities in Ohio law. House Bill 61 passed from the House with strong bipartisan support.

·      Authorize a nonrefundable credit against the income tax and certain business taxes for the rehabilitation of a vacant industrial site, in the effort to bring additional jobs to an area that has been affected by job loss. House Bill 135 passed from the House with unanimous support.

·      Ensure the safety of Ohio’s drivers by prohibiting the manufacture, import or sale of counterfeit airbags in cars. House Bill 177 passed from the House and Senate with unanimous support.

Representative Pelanda has served as a member of the House since her appointment in July 2011. A graduate of Marysville High School, she has practiced law for more than 30 years with a primary focus on domestic relations. She began her public service in 1988 as a member of the Charter Review Committee for the city of Marysville. Since then, she has also been a two-term president of the Marysville Library Board and a two-term president of U-CO Industries, which serves disabled adults in Union County.

In the Ohio House, Representative Pelanda is a member of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, the Judiciary Committee, the Policy and Legislative Oversight Committee, and Rules and Reference.
