Daniel A. Lucas, age 58, of Marion, died peacefully Thursday evening, December 19, 2013, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus following an extended illness.
On August 11, 1955, Dan was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of the late Glenn and Clara Mae (Montgomery) Lucas. He was raised in New Bloomington, and graduated from Elgin High School in the Class of 1973.
A few years after graduating, Dan married a young lady he grew up with in the same small town , Brenda Rudd. They were married on December 18, 1976, at the New Bloomington United Methodist Church. They have cherished their 37 years of marriage together, and lovingly raised three children.
Dedicated to his work, Dan followed in his father’s footsteps, working at Marion Rural Electric, which would become Mid-Ohio Energy. He worked there for 29 years as a lineman, retiring recently due to his health.
Dan was an avid collector of electrical insulators, and was a member of the National Insulator Association.
With a love for the outdoors, Dan spent his summers camping at the River Bend Camp Ground in Caledonia. He enjoyed “roughing it” in his RV and going fishing with his grandson, Braedon, and his brother-in-law, Jim and getting together with his fellow campers to share meals and activities. He was also a big sports fan, rooting on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Reds.
Dan was an unflappable, good hearted man, who always thought of his family first, and was always willing to give a helpful hand when needed. He shared an extremely close relationship with his brothers and sisters, and the entire Rudd family who accepted him as their own.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Brenda Lucas of Marion; three children: Andrew (Colynda) Lucas, and Derek Lucas from Columbus, and Molly Lucas, from Marion; a precious grandson, Braedon Lucas; three brothers and two sisters: David Lucas of Marion, Sandra (Bruce) Thaxton of Kenton, James Lucas of Delaware, Steven (Pam) Lucas, and Cheryl (James) Corbin, both of Marion; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends; and his canine companion, Daisy.
His family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 26th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Memorial services celebrating his life will also be held there on Friday at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Jeff Bush officiating. Internment will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the care of Lifeline of Ohio, 770 Kinnear Rd., Suite 200, Columbus, OH 43212 (http://lifelineofohio.org/).
His family would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you” to all of the staff at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus for their tender loving care of Dan and their family.
