Betty R. Burtch, age 77, of Marion, died peacefully Monday morning, December 23, 2013, at the Marion General Hospital following a nearly five year battle with breast cancer.
On October 8, 1936, Betty was born in McArthur, Ohio, the only child of the late James and Ruth (Hudnall) Cline. After moving several times when she was just a child, they eventually made their permanent home in Green Camp, Ohio, where she graduated from Green Camp High School in the Class of 1954.
Just a few months before graduating, Betty married a young man, Richard W. Burtch, whom she met and danced with at a local roller skating rink. They were married on January 24, 1954, in the church where he has been a lifelong member, Trinity Baptist Church. Together they shared 59 years of marriage and lovingly raised five children.
For over 25 years, Betty helped Dick as his secretary at Burtch Consolidated Insurance, until her retirement in 1995.
An avid bingo-er, Betty could keep track of “24 to 30 bingo cards and watch yours too”. She also enjoyed traveling with Dick’s Gold Wing Motorcycle club all throughout the United States.
Betty was a strong willed woman with a free spirit, who was forthright about her thoughts and opinions on any and all subjects.
She will be missed by her husband, Richard Burtch of Marion; four children: Michael (Carol) Burtch of Morral, Debbie (William) Templeman of Atlanta, GA, Douglas (Brenda) Burtch of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Steven (Sheryl) Burtch of Green Camp; and 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Including her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Labrosse.
The Burtch family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, December 27th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will also be held there on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Richard Farmer officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Marion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Masonic Home, and to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children, and they may be sent to the care of the funeral home.
