Longtime Edison resident, Doris Marie Bush, age 96, was welcomed into Heaven Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2014, following a month of declining health. She passed away at Morrow County Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born May 9, 1917, in Seneca County, Ohio, the third of seven children of the late Harley and Virginia (Holmes) Wolf. Her early years were spent near Bloomville before the family moved to a farm south of Carey. She graduated valedictorian of her class at the Salem Township School.
While visiting relatives near Edison, Marie met the love of her life, Raymond Bush, whom she married June 11, 1935. She worked along side Raymond as they established their family farm with the dairy being her special part of the operation. After more than 40 years, she gave up the cows when Raymond’s health deteriorated due to Parkinson’s disease. She devoted herself to his complete care for over seven years until his death September 15, 1977.
A woman of deep faith, Marie was an active member of the Edison United Methodist Church and its UMW for more than 70 years serving in many capacities, including as lay delegate to East Ohio Conference. More recently after giving up driving, she attended the Mt. Gilead Church of Christ with her son, Harold and daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Howard. She was also a vital part of the Gospel Hill Ministry near Warsaw and a member of the Lightkeepers. She felt blessed to have traveled to the Holy Land and had been baptized in the River Jordan.
Marie was a member and volunteer in several organizations including the Bluebell/Orchid Twig at Morrow County Hospital, the former Canaan Grange and Farm Bureau Council. For several years she had served as a volunteer at Woodside Village Care Center.
Taking great pride in her farm’s appearance, Marie enjoyed spending hours on her riding lawnmower. She remained an important part of the farm operation helping her sons and grandsons by acting as “go-fer,” providing meals and keeping the cookie boxes filled. Her cookie ministry at the farm covered a wide circle.
Marie will be greatly missed by her four children: Phylis Miller of Mount Gilead, Marilyn (Howard) Huston of Marion, Harold and Kenneth (Liz) Bush, both of Edison; 13 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Dorothy Wolfe and Ruth Bardon, both of Upper Sandusky, and Edith Loverich of Valparaiso, IN; and a sister-in-law, Alice Wolf of Carey.
Including her husband and parents, Marie was preceded in death by two sisters: Ellen Comte and Emadel Cole; a brother, Nelson Wolf; a son-in-law, James Miller; and a granddaughter, Emily Miller.
Her family will greet friends from 3 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life and her homegoing will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., at the Mt. Gilead Church of Christ, 322 Iberia St., Mount Gilead, with Pastors Doug Bryan and Ron Davis officiating. Her family will again greet friends for an hour prior to her services. Burial will follow in Worden Cemetery with Pastor Matt Skelton officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edison United Methodist Church, Mt. Gilead Church of Christ, or Gospel Hill Ministries, and they may be sent in the care of the funeral home.
