Freda Jeanette Waddell, age 92 of Delaware passed away peacefully Saturday morning, January 25, 2014 at home with her daughters by her side.
She was born on September 3, 1921 in Delaware County to the late Edwin and Verna (Evans) Thomas. A 1939 graduate from Waldo High School, she grew up near Radnor, then lived in Prospect until 1981 at which time she moved to Delaware.
Freda had worked as a cook with the Buckeye Valley Schools, as well as Tracy’s Restaurant in Delaware. She also worked for Fulfillment Corporation in Marion for a few years.
She was the true matriarch of her family, set in her ways. She was hard working and independent, with her husband working as an engineer on the railroad, she had to be. She also tended to the farm chores in her younger years. Once active in the Mother’s Clubs of Radnor and Prospect, she was also a former member of the Radnor Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.
Freda was a fan of all sports, especially women’s basketball, and over the years she enjoyed a love and at time confrontational relationship with the various coaches of the Buckeyes. She enjoyed a passion for gardening and tending to her yard. As one who loved her grandchildren, she was a wonderful cook, especially pot roast with all the fix ins. Her pies were simply the best.
She is survived by daughters Cathy Anastasio of Delaware, Criss (Larry) Cline of Waldo, 8 Grandchildren, 13 Great-grandchildren, brother Lowell Thomas of Delaware, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1980, son Roger Waddell in 1996, an 8 brothers and sisters.
In keeping with her wishes services will be observed privately by her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware.
Memorial contributions can be made to People In Need, P.O. Box 962, Delaware, Ohio 43015. Condolences may be expressed at www.snyderfuneralhomes.com
