The Ohio State women’s basketball team fell on the road at No. 24/25 Purdue, 74-58, Thursday night at Mackey Arena.
Ameryst Alston once again led the Buckeyes offensively with 26 points while playing all 40 minutes. Raven Ferguson scored 13 off the bench while Darryce Moore and Martina Ellerbe each had eight.
Field goals were tough to come by as the Buckeyes shot 35 percent from the field, including 4 of 17 from 3-point range. But the difference in the game was Ohio State’s 16 turnovers that led to 26 Boilermaker points.
The game was tightly contested for most of the first half until the Boilermakers opened things up with around 6 minutes to play. Leading by two, 21-19, Purdue went on a 10-1 run over the next 3 minutes to open up an 11-point lead, 31-20. Alston kept Ohio State close, hitting four free throws to end the half and Purdue led 33-24.
Purdue opened up a 41-28 lead to start the second half, but two three-pointers by Alston and a cutting layup by Ferguson cut the lead to seven, 43-36, with 13:21 left, forcing a Purdue timeout. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Buckeyes would come as they never were able to sustain any offensive momentum.
