Barbara A. Porterfield TempleBarbara A. Porterfield Temple, dearly loved wife, mother and stepmother, adored grand and great grandmother died at home surrounded by family February 27, 2014 after a long struggle with cancer, she was 82.

Barbara grew up on a beloved family farm in Marion, Ohio working hard and creating fond memories with her 2 brothers and 4 sisters. She attended and graduated Claridon School in Marion.

Barbara married and raised 5 children; Deborah, Michelle, Sheryl, Carolyn, and Kevin.  After a divorce she remarried her lifelong love Jim “Pop” Temple in 1974. Including Jim’s daughters, Christa, Paula and Jana they created a loud and loving home.

Barb was a dedicated Seamstress first at JC Penny, downtown Marion, then in the paint department at Sears (Southland Mall), retiring in 1984 from General Telephone Company.

Barb was a proud and active member of the Fair Park Community Baptist Church where she served for a time as choir director and organist.  Her joys in life came from the love of her family, nature and hobbies.  She could be heard through the crowds at ball games proudly cheering on her son and grandkids.  She loved her backyard garden and all its flowers; she especially adored the visiting hummingbirds.  She loved needlepoint and was an incredible seamstress.  Barb loved playing piano and could always be heard singing favorite hymns at home.  She loved chocolate and was famous for her desserts; cinnamon rolls, peanut brittle, and taffy!

Barb and Jim were Valentines for life.  Together they started the children’s program Safety City.  Together their hobbies were stain glass making and woodworking.  This year was their 40th year together.

Barbara is survived by husband James E. Temple. Children: Michelle Stone, FL., Sheryl (Russell) Baker, Upper Sandusky, Chris Smith, Marion, Carolyn (Randy) Weston, Morral, Paula (Jim) Sheets, Richwood, Kevin (Tina) Fahey, Chicago, Jana Temple, CO.  Grandchildren: Tracy (Christopher) Pericht, Daniel Stone, Brian (Jennie) Smith, James Baker, Josh (Sarah) Sheets, Brett Sheets, JR Weston, Holly (Kaine) Ransome, Patrick Weston, Callyn Fahey and many cherished great grandchildren.  Surviving sister June Stollsteimer, AZ and sister in law Marilyn Porterfield, Marion.

Barbara was predeceased by death by daughter, Deborah Monroe, TN, siblings Robert and Jerry Porterfield, Helen Dall, Virginia Jean Thompson and Shirley Pickett.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8PM at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors on Monday, March 3, 2014.  A funeral service will be held 11:30AM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Fair Park Community Baptist Church, 940 Bermuda Drive with Rev. David Rush officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date in the Waldo Cemetery.
