Hager Conley, 88, of Marion

Hager Conley age 88 of Marion, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 7, 1926 in Magoffin County, Ky., to the late James and Fronie (Blanton) Conley.

On September 3, 1955 he married, Arean “Sis” (Gullett) Conley.

Hager was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, was employed at Local Carpenters Union # 726 for 25 years.

He was an avid gardener, he maintained two gardens and you could always find him at his two daughter’s houses working in the gardens on even the hottest days. He also loved horseracing. He was always there helping his children with any help they needed at their homes. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his dog, Lucy “my pup” very much. He never said too much, but was always there and you could count on it. His grit, strength and determination should be an example to us all, “the strongest man I know.”

Hager is survived by his wife, Arean “Sis” Conley of Marion, his 6 children, Kathy (John) Denman of Marion, Rick Conley of Marion, Judy Neal of Marion, Audrie (Brian) Bender of Marion, Hager Allen (Lisa) Conley of Prospect, Debbie (Tom) Wolf of Marion, 19 grandchildren, Nikki, Jodie, Shanna, Chad, Melissa, Amy, Eric, Whitney, Ashley, Kayla, Jered, Megan, Taylor, Hannah, Josh, Jennifer, Joey, Jake and Austin, 13 great grandchildren, a sister, Katherine Barnett, half sister, Katie Howard-Smith, close brother in law and sister in law, Happy and Kay Hall of Marion and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, Lenora Conley, brothers, Raymond “Dug” Conley and Olvie Conley, and his sister, Mabel Skaggs.

Visitation for Hager will be Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 5 – 8 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, March 14, 2014 @ 1 PM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Wilch officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery with the Marion County Veterans Council conducting Military Honors.
