John Thomas Longberry, 86, of Marion, passed away early Sunday morning, March 23, 2014, in his home. He was in failing health for the past 7 months.
Born September 30, 1927, in Marion, he was the son of the late Thomas W. and Mildred N. (Larue) Longberry. He was married June 9, 1950, in Marion, to the former Donna Mae Sigler, who survives.
John was a 1945 graduate of Harding High School, an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He retired from the Marion Power Shovel as a computer progammer. He was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Chuch, Marion Senior Center where he loved playing hand&foot and enjoyed square dancing.
Also surving are 4 sons, Mike (Linda) Longberry and Steve (Marsha) Longberry, both of Marion, John S. Longberry of Arkansas, and Kevin (Marty) Longberry of Richwood; 8 grandchildren, Paul, Andy, Michelle, Rob, Alexa, Kaila, Kourtney and Christian; 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff and a great grandson, Logan T. Longberry.
Visitation for John will be Friday, March 28, 2014 from 4 -6 PM at Emanuel Lutheran Church. Funeral services will follow at 6 PM at the church with AIM Kevin Kehn officiating. The Boyd-Born Funeral Home is handling the arrangements for the family.
In lieu of Flowres memorial contributions may be to American Heart Association or Marion General Hospital Hospice or The Emanuel Lutheran Church.
