Charles R. Sharp, a.k.a. “Good Time Charlie” age 76, of Dublin and formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital following an extended illness.
On September 17, 1937, Chuck was born in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of five children of the late Harold R. and Alice “Granny” (Chard) Sharp.
In 1958, Chuck enlisted to serve in the U. S. Marine Corp. He honorably served during peace time for four years and was stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina.
Shortly after returning home from the Marine Corp, Chuck moved to Columbus to manage Top of the Center restaurant. From there, he managed several more…Yankee Clipper, Stouffer’s, Tiffany’s, and the Gas Light to name a few. A big man, everywhere he went he kept everyone in line, because “no one messed with Charlie”. He moved to Gainesville, Georgia, in 1986 to work for Poultry Classics, which he did for four years. Lastly, he worked as a deputy clerk for the Franklin County Domestic Division, from which he retired in 2001.
His nickname speaks for itself, “Good Time Charlie”. Everyone loved being around Chuck, and his fun loving larger than life personality. You also can’t talk about him, without mentioning how much of a ladies man he was. Stories of Chuck…there are millions of them…and most of them were unforgettable.
Most important of all to Chuck was his family. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren, and loved to be surrounded by them. To them, he was their big loving teddy bear!
He will be dearly missed by his “wife”, Phyllis Sharp of Dublin; five children: Michael (Karen) Sharp of Dublin, Terry Ellis of Batson, Texas, Charles “Randy” Sharp of Cleveland, Phillip (Tara) Sharp of Marysville, and Corinne Ahmed of Dublin; 9 grandchildren: Michael II, and Johnathan Sharp, J.P. “Griz” (Ashlynn) Ellis, Carlee Scofelia, Derek, Madison, and Trent Sharp, and Joseph and Alliyah Ahmed; two great-grandchildren: A.J. “Little Griz” and Nila-Faye Ellis; four siblings: Fritz (Joanne) Sharp, Charlene (Ron) Dickason, Diana Shook, and Pam (Myron) Berry, all four of Marion; numerous nieces and nephews; and two former wives, Dixie Murphy and Gayle Snyder.
His family will greet friends from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 30th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services celebrating his life will also be held there on Monday at 11:00 a.m., with Celebrant Don Lockwood officiating. Military honors provided by the Marion County United Veterans Council will immediately follow his services at the funeral home.
