The Marion Harding High School Indoor Drumline placed first in its class during a state championship on Saturday, March 29. The drumline competed in the Ohio Indoor Performance Association State Championships at Wapakoneta High School, beating seven others in its class to be named the OIPA Percussion Regional A State Champions, Marion City Schools band director Jacob Hartman said.
“The kids truly earned it and worked hard for it,” he said. “It was a great feeling seeing them reap the benefits of hard work.”
Hartman said competing in the OIPA keeps them engaged and their abilities sharp after they finish marching band season. He said this was the first year the drumline competed in about a decade. The drumline competed in three contests leading up to the state championships.
Hartman said that “championship attitude, that sort of mentality” is “something they can transfer to everything they do in life.”
