Joyce Kent Milner, 88, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Kingston Residence of Marion, Ohio.
She was born March 25, 1926 to Carl Thurber and Gladys S. Kent in Meriden, Connecticut.
She is survived by her beloved daughter and son, Robin Milner of Houston, Texas and Todd (Dawn) Milner of Sylvania, Ohio. Another son, Mark (Terry) Milner, resides in Minnesota.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn (Jade), Ryan (Julie), Erin, Lindsay (Spencer), and Kate (Nick), two step grandchildren, Sarah and Ellen, and great grandsons, Cayson, Cullen, and Braylon. Other survivors are a dear niece, Leigh Joyner from Florida, and nieces Jill Sumner and Missy Flood also of Florida, as well as nephews, Bradley Kent of New Jersey and Bruce Kent of Pennsylvania. Two beloved brothers, John S. Kent and Wayne T. Kent, preceded her in death.
Joyce graduated from the Northfield School for Girls in 1944 and received her B.A. in Sociology from Pembroke College of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island in 1948. She was formerly married to Raymond R. Milner.
She retired as supervisor of communications at Marion General Hospital after 23 years of service. She was previously a volunteer for the Free Medical Clinic and Mobile Meals and had been a driver for the Eye-To –Eye Group. After retiring, she became a pet sitter, thus fulfilling a lifelong love of animals.
Joyce was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Marion, Ohio. She was a lover of the English language and American literature, was an avid reader, and enjoyed all forms of theater.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W.Columbia St., Marion on Thursday, April 17 from 4-8 P.M. The funeral service will be Friday at 11 A.M. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S. Prospect St., Marion, where friends may call from 10-11 A.M. Pastor Mark Schuring and AIM Kevin Kehn officiating. Burial at Marion Cemetery immediately following the service.
