Marion County Job & Family Services (MCJFS) has kicked off the 2014 Summer Youth Employment Program. The TANF Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) enables low income TANF-eligible Marion County youth, age 16-24, to gain valuable work experience while earning a paycheck to help meet basic needs.
Youth may work part time or up to 35 hours a week through this program. The SYEP offers the opportunity for youth to develop a hands-on work experience and get a reference from an employer.
MCJFS will be receiving funding from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to fund the program. Summer employment will begin May 1st and work assignments will continue through October 31st 2014.
MCJFS will be partnering with Tri-Rivers Career Center’s Department of Adult Education to provide Job Readiness training, and also with Marion Goodwill to facilitate the program. Goodwill will be assigning the youth to a variety of private, not-for-profit, and public employers around the county. Youth will also have job coaches to help them address and overcome barriers that may be preventing them from being successful at work.
Youth must meet one of the following categories (all categories must be low income, please visit the websites listed below for the guidelines):
- Youth age 16-17, as long as the youth is in school (youth may be 18 if they are a full-time student in a secondary school);
- Youth ages 18-24 as long as they have a minor child in their family, residing in their home;
- Youth ages 18-24 that have a minor child.
