Ronald William Geckle, age 88, of Marion passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 8:14 a.m. in the Presidential Center.
He was born on March 2, 1926 in Carey, Ohio to John W. and Ruby G. (Turnbell) Geckle.
Ron married Ellen L. Shaw on March 5, 1955 in Marion, Ohio and she preceded him in death on February 1, 2001.
He graduated in 1944 from Wharton High School and was of the Baptist faith.
Ron was employed for 33 years as a set-up man and welder for the Marion Power Shovel Co., retiring in 1988. While employed with the M.P.S. he assisted in the design & assembly of the crawler used at Cape Canaveral to move the rockets to the launching pad.
Ron is survived by 2 sons; Larry Ray Geckle and Michael Eugene (Marsha) Geckle both of Marion, Oh., a daughter; Debbie (David) Rush of Marion, Oh., 5 grandchildren; Angie (Trevor) Thompson, Brian (Heather) Rush, Keith Rush, Brandon Geckle, & Shawn Geckle, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 half brothers; Dick (Marie) Kuhlman & Gordon (Gina) Kuhlman both of Grove City, Oh. He was preceded in death by 2 sons; Steven A. & David B. Geckle.
Friends may call at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Monday, May 5, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Pastor David Rush will officiate.
