KASA (Kingdom Alive Soccer Association), a faith-based travel soccer organization in Marion, is hoping to grow this year. After fielding a single boys U13 team last fall and this spring, the organization is hoping to add one or two more teams. Tryouts are scheduled for June 20, 2014.
“KASA is providing opportunities for young soccer enthusiasts to play competitive soccer in a Columbus league,” explained coach Jeff McGuire. “KASA also focuses on character-building. Our goal is to produce not only better soccer players, but to help build better young men and women – better citizens.”
McGuire said they are looking for boys and girls whose birth dates are between August 1, 2000 and July 31, 2003 to fill U12, U13 and U14 teams. The number of players successfully completing the tryouts will determine exactly how many teams and at which age brackets they will be able to sponsor this fall. They plan to add younger age teams in the future.
Tryouts for KASA soccer teams will be held Friday, June 20, 2014 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm and Saturday, June 21 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Pre-registration is required and the tryout location will be announced at that time. Players only need to sign up for one 30-40 minute session.
Examples of skills on which players will be evaluated include:
- Dribbling
- Passing
- Trapping
- Shooting
- Defensive posture
- Game situation simulations
There will also be some modest tests of players’ running speed, physical strength and endurance.

While there is no cost for this tryout, it does require pre-registration. Future player fees will be discussed.
Qualified, experienced assistant coaches and trainers are also needed.
