3-on-3 Tournament to Honor Memory of Tim Millisor, Benefit Scholarship

Tim MillisorFriends and family will hold the 2nd Annual Timothy Millisor Memorial Scholarship 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, August 2, 2014. After giving away a $1,000 scholarship last year, organizers hope to double or triple that amount through this year’s event.

The tournament will be held at Elgin High School with games starting at noon. It is open to male and female players, 3 to 4 per team, 16 years old and up. Registration is $60 per team and all players will receive a commemorative t-shirt.

All players will need to sign a release and those under 18 will need a parent signature.

The tournament and scholarship were started in memory of Tim Millisor who died on July 5, 2013 at the age of 21.

When the Elgin graduate and Prospect resident passed away, the community bonded together to help with funeral expenses. They had bake sales and yard sales and some of his friends held the first 3-on-3 tournament.

“Our wonderful community raised almost $20,000 to help us bury our beautiful son,” explained Tammy Millisor, Tim’s mom.

The money that was left was used as seed money to award the first memorial scholarship of $1,000 to Allison Tumey, Elgin High School Class of 2014 (pictured below).

“Timmy is a little difficult to capture in a few words,” said Tammy. “My big, beautiful son had the softest, sweetest heart.”

Tim graduated from Elgin in 2011. Tammy said that while in school, he was active in football, basketball, track and weightlifting. He was voted best smile, biggest hunk and prom king his senior year.

“He was loved … not by just the girls, but everyone. His teammates, his coaches, his teachers, the parents of all his friends,” explained Tammy. “He was encourager for the downhearted, a champion for the “unpopular” kids. He had no enemies … except himself.”

After Tim’s death, Tammy said she received scores of messages on Facebook, text messages, cards, and letters from his schoolmates who told her of their uplifting experiences with her son.

“One mom told me that when the news of Tim’s death hit the fairgrounds (during the Marion County Fair) the barns emptied out as the kids all went to find their parents or to huddle together and cry for the loss of their friend,” shared Tammy.

The remembrances have not stopped. Tammy said that over 100 people showed up on his birthday in April to send off a sky lantern for him.

“Yes, my son was special,” said Tammy.

Allison TumeyIf you would like to help, sponsorships are available for the tournament. $200 will get your name printed on event shirts along with other recognition. They are also seeking donations for the raffle that will take place during the tournament.
