Elmer Dale "Elmo" SimpsonElmer Dale “Elmo” Simpson, 59 of Richwood, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Heartland of Marysville.  He was born May 10, 1955 in Marysville to the late Elmer Lloyd and Dorothy Fannie (Mayes) Simpson.

He had worked for Mike’s Pizza in Richwood for many years.  Elmo was a big sports fan, especially of his Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians.  He coached Peewee baseball in Richwood, and was an assistant football coach at North Union High School and Marion Catholic High School.  He also coached baseball for Marysville High School.

He had been a volunteer firefighter for the Richwood Fire Dept. in the seventies and eighties, as well as a volunteer for the Union County Civil Defense (now EMA).  He enjoyed being Santa Claus at the Richwood Christmas parade, as well as the Marysville parade, Hills Department Store in Marion and many Christmas parties.

On April 29, 1979 he married the former Pamela Jerew and she survives in Richwood.  He is also survived by a daughter, Karie Ann Simpson Whitmore, Richwood; a grandson, James Robert Whitmore; a sister, Diane (Larry Roff) Simpson, Marysville; nieces and nephews, Tammy (Warren Hetrick) Simpson Nelson, Marion; Tanya (Doug) Smith, Marysville; Chris (Julie Zedeker) Simpson, Delaware; Robert (Lisa Brown) Simpson, Marysville; Gus (Katie Landis) Jerew, Richwood; Harley (Chad Hemminger) Jerew, Richwood; and many great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 4:00 PM at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Dale Baker officiating.  Friends may call two hours prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 PM.  All friends are encouraged to wear the sports attire of their favorite team.  Interment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg at a later date.
