Corrine Y. McAfee, 80, of Marion

Corrine Y. McAfeeCorrine Y. McAfee, age 80, of Marion, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, August 20, 2014, at the Marion Manor Care Center with her loving sons by her side following an extended illness.

On July 8, 1934, Corrine was born in Marion, Ohio, the oldest of two daughters of the late Orville and Hazel (Bader) Levine. A lifelong resident of Marion, she graduated from Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1952. For many years to follow, she served as the class historian, and served on many class reunion committees.

Shortly following graduation, Corrine married her classmate and high school sweetheart, Gary McAfee, on August 15, 1954, at Epworth United Methodist Church. They proudly celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together just a few days prior to her passing.

A woman of deep faith, Corrine dedicated her life to the Lord in many ways. She was a member of the First Church of the Brethren, where she also served as church secretary for over 27 years, retiring in 2000. She also was a member of the Church of the Brethren, Genealogy Society, Marion County Ministerial Association, Ohio Council for Churches, Church Women United of Marion County, the Church Secretary Support Group, and Love Inc (In the Name of Christ).

Proud to be a part of the Marion Community, Corrine served on countless organizations and in various capacities. She served as a member and volunteer for the Junior Service Guild (30+ years), Y-Mennettes Service Organization (40 years), and she hosted foreign exchange students and served as secretary for the American Field Service Foreign Student Exchange Program. She volunteered for the Muscular Dystraphy Foundation, Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, March of Dimes, American Heart Association, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, Marion County Historical Society (40+ years), Marion Area Genealogical Society (30+ years), MADD, Habitat for Humanity, Family Service Society, Salvation Army (40+ years), Marion County Board of Elections, Marion City Popcorn Festival committee (30+ years), Friends of the Library Group, United Way of Marion County, Children’s Hospital TWIG #73, Marion Train and Miniature Show, Women’s Home Club, Marion Hobby Club, Society for Handicapped of Marion County, Marion County Sherriff’s Office, and the YMCA. She also volunteered for many city school system activities, and was a part of the Ohio State Parent’s Alumni Group.

She will forever be remembered for her love of Scouting, having served for 50 years.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, Gary McAfee of Marion; three adored sons: Terry (Bonnie) McAfee of Caldwell, OH, Chris (Laura) McAfee of Marion, and Tracy (Susan) McAfee of Rural Retreat, Virginia; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Pauline (Cecil) Fulmer of Hayden, AL; and several nieces and nephews.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring her life will be held at 10a.m. on Friday, at the First Church of the Brethren, 860 E. Church St., Marion, with Pastor Rick Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens.
