Bernard Hughes, age 62, of Lakeview, Ohio was tragically taken as the result of an automobile accident in Hardin County, Ohio.
Born in Louisa, Kentucky on February 28, 1952 to Millard and Lona (Salmons) Hughes, he was a graduate of Elgin High School and had served his country in the United States Army, retiring from the military.
Bernard was known for his spontaneous and witty personality and was always happy to offer a helping hand.
Survivors include his daughter; Susanne Knoke and son; Richard Knoke who reside in Germany, his 3 sisters; Jewel Ward of Prospect, Bertha Shappard of Lakeview and Wanda Culwell of Marion and his brother; Millard N. Hughes of Marion. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Maxine Beekman.
His family praises him for his service to his country and for the joy he brought to his friends and family. He will never be forgotten. There will be a military service for Bernard at a later date at the Dayton National Cemetery.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Marion County Joint Veteran’s Council in his memory. The Hughes-Allen Funeral Home has assisted his family with the arrangements.
