The Ohio State University at Marion has announced the schedule for the 2014-2015 Five Nights on Campus performing arts series. Designed specifically for the residents of the seven-county regional service area of Ohio State Marion, the series is intended to complement the other entertainment opportunities in the area.
According to C. Gary Iams, Ohio State Marion Coordinator of Community Relations, the series features a variety of performance styles from Broadway to bluegrass, with the opportunity for the audience to meet with the artists at a reception at the end of each performance.
“The mission of Five Nights on Campus is to provide exceptional and diverse cultural and educational opportunities and to encourage the community to be a part of campus life,” he said.
Schedule:
- Thursday, October 9, 2014 – Annie Sellick and Pat Bergeson
Annie Sellick has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O’Day. The purity and naturalness of her voice, her sense of timing, and her feel for the music have undeniably set her apart as an original. Her husband, Pat Bergeson, is an award-winning guitarist and song writer. - Thursday & Friday, November 13 & 14, 2014 – The Wiz
The Wiz is a delightful retelling of Frank Braun’s immortal classic, The Wizard of Oz. After a long and successful run on Broadway, the show has had many revivals. A film adaptation was released in 1978. Our production, produced by Wayne Rowe and directed by Scott Persinger, will feature Ohio State Marion students as well as talented community performers. - Thursday, March 12, 2015 – Alina Kiryayeva
Ukrainian-born pianist Alina Kiryayeva gave her first recital at age eight and made her orchestra debut at age eleven. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at The Julliard School, and has been praised for her powerful command of the instrument and clarity of sound. Kiryayeva captivates audiences with her Moving Pictures show, using unique interpretations and virtuosic fireworks of nearly unplayable transcriptions. - Thursday, April 9, 2015 – Bettman and Halpin
Stephanie Bettman is an accomplished writer, singer, and fiddler. Luke Halpin is a renowned multi-instrument musician – a master of the guitar and mandolin, impressive on fiddle and banjo. Their music is an engaging mixture of folk, roots, bluegrass, and jazz with memorable lyrics and instrumentation. - Thursday, May 12, 2015 – A Band Called Honalee
A Band Called Honalee brings together three young artists whose passion and enthusiasm for folk music sparks an invigorating return to the era of the renowned Peter, Paul, and Mary. Sarah, Chris, and Eli are steeped in the legacy of the folk movement, and they honor the past while adding a modern touch, reminding audiences of the vitality and power of this incredible music.
“A series like this would not be possible without the support of our season ticket holders and generous sponsors in the community,” said Iams. “Among those sponsors are OhioHealth Marion General Hospital, Marion Industrial Center, Stifel Nicolaus, Marion Technical College, Marion Community Credit Union, Frontier Communications, Wyandot, Morral Companies, Sims Brothers Recycling, Whirlpool Corporation, and Arcelor Mittal. We are also grateful for the in-kind support provided by Clear Channel Marion, The Marion Star, and the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Marion County.”
