Marsha R. Price, 68, of Marion

Marsha R. PriceMarsha R. Price, age 68, of Marion and formerly of Columbus, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening, October 9, 2014, at the Marion Manor following a lengthy battle with cancer.

On December 22, 1945, Marsha was born in Columbus, Ohio, the only child of the late Thomas and Lillian (Medford) Price. She was a part of the first graduating class of Walnut Ridge High School in Columbus in 1963.

Furthering her education, Marsha attended Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee, where she earned an art degree in 1965. Later, she attended some college classes at The Ohio State University.

Upon completing college, Marsha returned to Columbus, Ohio, where she worked for the federal government for over 10 years as a clerk typist. Shortly thereafter, Marsha moved to Marion, in the early 1980’s, where she again worked as a clerk typist for the Fulfillment Corporation of America and later for GTE, which became Verizon.

Soon after arriving in Marion, Marsha found her home away from home at the Prospect St. United Methodist Church. Very active in the church, she was a former chairman of the Hilda Weiss Circle, she taught both adult and children’s Sunday School, she enjoyed singing in the choir, and she loved being their resident baby sitter.

In addition to her church, Marsha was a dedicated member and past worthy matron of the Eastern Star, Beacon Chapter in Columbus with her mother, where she also sang many solos. She was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America in Columbus, in their Honey Bear Class, with whom she loved singing in their Thia’s Threshes Chorus. She also was a member of the Pleasant Senior Citizens and TOPS in Marion.

Having a huge heart for animals, Marsha loved the companionship of her eights cats over the years, with her current sidekick being her precious little Pumpkin.

To say Marsha was an avid Ohio State University Buckeye fan would be an understatement. She has loved rooting on her beloved Buckeyes for years, learning to sing Carmen Ohio when she was practically a baby. She also loved collecting OSU memorabilia, anything cat related, precious moments, and Julie Andrews movies.

Most important of all to Marsha was her family. She cherished every moment they spent together, and played more hands of Tripolee than one can imagine. She also took great pride in being an aunt to Julie’s children, babysitting every chance she got.

Left to cherish her memory are her cousins: Julie Secrest of Columbus, Betty Price of Birmingham, AL, Kathleen Schilling of Gahanna, Dennis Medford of Memphis, TN, and many more; her dear friends and caregivers, Barbara Huffine of Marion, and Robert and Jane Divine of Columbus; and her special friends at Prospect St. United Methodist Church.

Including her parents, Marsha was preceded in death by her former husband and dear friend, Arthur D. Hickman.

Family and friends may visit from 10 – 11 a.m. on Monday, October 13th, at the Prospect St. United Methodist Church, 185 S. Prospect St., Marion. Services honoring her life and celebrating her homegoing will follow at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Nancy Goulet officiating. Following a luncheon at the church in Marsha’s honor, graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Glen Rest Memorial Estates in Reynoldsburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Prospect St. United Methodist Church (address above), Marion Area Humane Society, 2264 Richland Rd., Marion, OH 43302, and Marion General Hospital Hospice, 278 Barks Rd. W., Marion, OH 43302.
