Paul E. Hoffman, 90, of Essex

Paul E. Hoffman, age 90 of Essex died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 3, 2010 in the room in which he was born.  He was born on August 14, 1920 to the late Edgar and Daisy (Reese) Hoffman.

On April 7, 1940 he married the former Fannie E. Rockhold in Russell, Kentucky and she survives.

A farmer all his life, he graduated from Essex High School in 1937 and Richwood High School in 1938.  Paul was a member of the Rush Creek (formerly Essex) United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the K of P Lodge in Essex.  A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a lifetime member of the American Legion Baccarat Post and the VFW Post 870.  He served for many years on the Essex and Richwood school boards.  He had been a Union County Fair Board member and enjoyed hunting.  Paul and Fannie enjoyed wintering in Sebring, Florida for 25 years.  An avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, he enjoyed traveling to many football games.  Among his other interests, he loved golfing, playing cards, dancing and going flying.  Family was at the center of Paul’s life.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fannie; three sons, Paul “Pete” (Sheryl) Hoffman Jr., Marietta; Michael (Sue) Hoffman, Richwood; Richard (Nancy) Hoffman, Richwood; two daughters, Patricia (Dewey) Hall, Marysville; Deborah (Don) Williams, Streetsboro; a sister, JoAnn Heller, LaRue; 15 grandchildren, Andrew (Heather) Hoffman; Deborah Hoffman; Elizabeth Hoffman; Todd (Vicki) Hoffman; Stacey Pertuset; Cory (Renee) Hoffman; Chad (Jodi) Hoffman; Carla (Mike) Moser; Rebecca (Brian) Thomas; Travis Hall; Barbara (Greg) Scheiderer; Tiffany (Tony) Nicol; Joel (Julie) Williams; Jonathan (Emily) Williams; Joshua (Jenna) Williams; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother, James Hoffman; four sisters, Vineta Foos, Lucille Wittibslager, Ruth Greenwood and Winifred Blue.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood with Pastor Michele Holloway officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Richwood Area Veterans.  Friends may call on Friday, December 10 from 5 to 8 PM.
