Attendees at Marion Goodwill’s Annual Meeting Hear from Inspirational Speaker

Brett EastburnGoodwill’s Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet was held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 to reflect on the past year and to honor program recipients, volunteers, and community partners for their commitment to Goodwill’s mission.

Brett Eastburn was the featured speaker. Brett was born with a condition he calls Quadmembral Limbs Deficiency, which means he has no arms and no legs. While in school, Brett played baseball, football and basketball. He also became an accomplished swimmer. In junior high, he became a member of the wrestling team. In high school, he wrestled on the varsity team.

In 1988, Brett took 4th place in the nation for wrestling in the Amateur Athletic Union. Afterwards, he was made one of the high school varsity team captains. After graduating, he earned a green belt in the martial arts. Brett is also a nationally recognized artist.

Brett began speaking professionally in 1990. He has done over 3,000 presentations worldwide to over 1 million people. Brett and his wife, Chrisa, have owned and operated their own company, called No Boundaries Inc., since the year 2000.

Brett is also a “standup” comedian and has appeared on the Bob and Tom show. He is currently working full-time as a motivational and inspirational speaker. He is also a substitute teacher in his hometown area. Brett has no arms and no legs, but more importantly, he has “no handicaps.”

Roughly 125 people were in attendance at this year’s meeting held at OSUM. Those present included employees from the five counties, Goodwill board members, and community partners.

Tami Galloway & Deb Murphy of Marion Technical College accepted the Community Partner Award. Matthew Tway, Bonnie Borders, Teresa Plummer, Patty VanSickle and Sharon Middleton were recognized for their service on the board, and several Goodwill retail stores were recognized for their achievements in the past year.
