Sandra Lee Burns, age 70, of Caledonia, was called home to Heaven unexpectedly on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the Marion General Hospital.
Sandra was born on February 22, 1944, the daughter of John Russell and Margaret (Strickland) Barrick. Sandra graduated from the Marion Harding High School in the class of 1962. Later that summer, Sandra was united in marriage to Ivan Dale Burns on July 7 in Marion. Together they have lovingly shared 52 years of marriage.
Sandra worked for the River Valley School district as a bus driver, touching the lives of hundreds of students over the years. She retired with 32 years of service but then went back to work as a bus driver doing so until she passed away. She held the position as president for 12 years of the River Valley O.E.A.
Sandra loved life. She was a masterful chef, cooking with love for all of her family and friends. She also enjoyed arranging flowers and making many crafts. Along with her family, they enjoyed traveling the country, especially trips to the ocean. She also enjoyed traveling to Amish country and enjoying their culture.
Above all things, Sandra was the heartbeat of her family. She loved and cherished her time with her children, whom she called daily, her beloved grandchildren and devoted husband. The holidays were a particularly special time in the Burns household. She made every holiday special with her cooking and times gathered around the piano.
She had a deep devotion and faith and was a member of the Dayspring Wesleyan Church.
She is survived by her husband Ivan D. Burns; Children: Jeffery (Renna) Burns, Jennifer (Patrick) Hogan and Jill Dawson; grandchildren: Nicholas (Heather) Burns, Daniel (Michaela) Burns, Katie, Shannon and Kyle Hogan, Emily and Allison Tramontana and Jacqueline Dawson; great grandchildren: Ian, Colten, Liam and Tucker Burns; sister Karen (Melvin) Perry; She was especially close with her aunt and uncle Maxine and Donald Burns who were like her parents and cousins Russell (Janet) and Danny (Rhonda) Burns who were just like brothers.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister Linda Sue.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 4PM to 7PM; Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10AM with Pastor David Holdren officiating, burial will be in the Caledonia Cemetery.
