Opal Spurgeon Young, age 88, went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 4:18 p.m. from the Marion General Hospital.
She was born on June 16, 1926 in Blackie, Kentucky to John and Montanna (Hall) Spurgeon. Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather; John Clarence Henley.
On September 22, 1968 she married Watson J. Young Sr. and he preceded her in death on November 9, 1993.
Opal was a longtime member of the Marion Enterprise Baptist Church where she gave her life to God and volunteered her life to her church.
The lifelong homemaker is survived by a stepson; Watson Jay (Cathy) Young Jr. of Marion, Oh. a brother; Elmer Henley of Applegate, Mi., 2 sisters; Joyce McCain of Caledonia, Oh. & Ann Miller of Wyandote, Mi., along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, & nephews.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather, her husband, a daughter; Henrietta Blythe, 2 stepdaughters; Mabel Stover & Romaine Gillispie, a stepson; James M. Young, 3 brothers; Virgil, Denvil, & Warnie Spurgeon, and 5 sisters; Clara Spurgeon, Maxine Ratliff, Loretta Gilliam, Sue Thomas, & Gennette Thacker.
Calling hours will be held in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2014, from 5-7 p.m. and on Friday at the Marion Enterprise Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. Rev. James McIntire will conduct the service and burial will follow in the Marion Cemetery.
