Warren C. Schaber, age 93, a lifelong resident and farmer of New Bloomington, went to be with the Lord and was reunited with his wife, Georgia, late Tuesday evening, December 23, 2014, at Heartland of Marion following an extended illness.
On January 9, 1921, Warren was born at home on the family farm, the fourth child and only son of the late Charles and Hazel (Redd) Schaber. He attended New Bloomington schools, and left before he graduated to help his father on the farm.
Even though they went to school together, Warren officially met his wife to be, Georgia Hughes, in church when they were teenagers. Eventually they would be married in that same church, the Emanuel Baptist Church, on April 10, 1942. Together they cherished over 51 years of marriage and lovingly raised two sons, Marvin and Calvin. She preceded him in death on August 16, 1993.
Deeply dedicated to his family farm, Warren lived there all but seven years of his life, where he tended to livestock and farmed grain. He was extremely proud and honored to have his son follow in his family’s footsteps and carry on his their farming legacy.
Doing everything he could to make ends meet, Warren also worked for 28 years as a machinist at Tecumseh Products, where he retired from in 1984.
A jack of all trades, Warren could make or fix anything. His mind was always thinking about projects…things that needed improved or fixed. In his own words, he was a woodworker “off and on,” making many things, with his favorite being his grandfather clock.
Having a green thumb, Warren enjoyed growing a vegetable garden every year, with Georgia’s help, who took care of all of the canning and freezing of their crops. They also enjoyed traveling together with their church family, to places like “Maine and around.”
Very faithful, Warren was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church in Marion, where he served as a deacon and an usher.
Honest and straight forward, everyone always knew how Warren felt about things. He also was a genuine man of integrity, who appreciated every penny he ever earned.
Left to cherish his memory, are his two sons: Marvin Schaber of Marion, and Calvin (Hazel “June”) Schaber of New Bloomington; five grandchildren: Brian Schaber, Jason (Kristy) Schaber, Tim (Holly) Schaber, Craig Schaber, and Marty Schaber; two step-grandchildren: Tammy Adams, and Mike Parsell; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-grandson; a sister, Doris (Harold) Radel of Canal Winchester; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Including his parents, Warren was preceded in death by his three older sisters: Ethel Seitz, Martha Orahood, and Frances Creamer.
His family will greet friends from 2 – 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 28th, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion. Services honoring his life well lived will be held there at 10 a.m. on Monday, at Grace Baptist Church (address below) with Pastors Nicholas Warden and Bill Middleton officiating. Burial will follow in LaRue Cemetery.
