Robert E. Griffith, age 92, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014, at Marion General Hospital.
He was born in Marion, on November 2, 1922 to the late Vern F. and Elizabeth B. (Meekins) Griffith.
Robert was a chief petty officer in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Trumpeter. He was in charge of the engine room. His task force destroyed several subs in the Atlantic Ocean near Africa.
On October 12, 1946, Robert married the love of his life, the late Ester Marie Schrote.
He worked 33 years at Huber Corporation and 11 years at Marion Power Shovel.
Robert was a life-long member of Forrest Lawn Presbyterian Church, where he was a lay speaking minister. He was deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his daughter, Patricia (Thomas) Griffith Moore of Evanston, IL; son, Richard Griffith of Bellefontaine; grandchildren: Kristen McCaffery, Kara McCaffery, Morgan Griffith Comer, and Gaile Griffith Gildow; and five great-grandchildren.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers: Vern and Jack Griffith, and a sister, Virginia Melbey.
Family will greet friends from 4 pm to 7 pm on Friday, January 2, 2015, at the Denzer- Farison- Hottinger and Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, OH. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at 10 am, at the Forrest Lawn Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ed Rowlands officiating. Burial will follow in Marion cemetery.
