Frances Mae Strine, age 102, of Caledonia, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Kingston Residence of Marion.
Frances was born on October 24, 1912 in Marion, Ohio, the daughter of Harrison and Bertha (Fisher) Kraner. She graduated from the Claridon High School. Frances attended The Ohio State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics.
She taught at the Waldo High School in the mid 1930’s. While there, she also coached the girls basketball team. Frances continued her teaching career at New Bloomington, Claridon and River Valley High Schools for over 35 years.
On June 12, 1938, she was united in marriage to Clifford Berringer Strine. Together they shared nearly 70 years of marriage until he preceded her in death in 2008.
Frances touched the lives of many students over the years. She served as a FHA Advisor and her chapter received many awards. She was also a class advisor, directed the school plays and managed the Claridon School cafeteria.
She was also involved with a number of other activities including: the Salem United Methodist Church UMW, Church Treasurer and Historian, Fellowship Sunday School Class, Sunday School Teacher and Ice Cream Social Chairman. She was famous for her pecan pies at the church dinners. Frances also enjoyed being in the Homemakers Study Club.
One of her greatest joys was being an avid supporter of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events, music, school, 4-H and church activities.
Frances is survived by her three sons: Max (Janet) Strine, Rex (Judi) Strine, and Gene (Sandy) Strine, all of Caledonia; grandchildren: Doug (Kara) Strine, Jim Strine, Amy (Matt) Bratton, Andy (Jaleen) Strine, Amanda (Jayson) Loyer, Matt (Courtney) Strine, Mark (Jen) Strine, and Michaela (Trent) Burbury; 19 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Helen Strine Good.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clifford B. Strine; twin sons: Tommy and Teddy Strine; and three sisters: Inez (Lowell) Sycks, Georgia (JC) Strickland and Pat (John) Gray.
Her family will greet friends on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 9:30 to 11AM at the Marion Salem United Methodist Church, 1640 Salem Road, Caledonia; Services celebrating her life will immediately follow at 11AM with Pastors James Van Meter and Tom Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Marion Salem United Methodist Church to support the food pantry and the Leap’in Ministries.
