Floyd E. Smith age 79 of Marion, Ohio passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 in Cardington, Ohio.
He was born June 15, 1931 in Ashley, Ohio to the late Elbert L. and Ida Belle (Earl) Smith.
He was married to Rebecca J. (Weiss) Smith, she preceded him in death on December 1, 1998.
Floyd was a U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1949-1952 during the Korean Conflict, he was discharged as a Corpral. He retired from Whirlpool Corp. after 36 years in maintenance, he attended Marion Enterprise Baptist Church, was a life member of Amvets #87, Meeker Sportsman Club and was a member of the Eagles, Moose and VFW. He was very active in the Color Guard for the Amvets doing services for veterans funeral services, and always stated he hoped it was cold and snowy for his service.
He is survived by his two children, Patty J. Shaffer of Marion, OH., Wayne E. (Jackie) Smith of Caledonia, OH., ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, his loving companion of 12 years, Janice Brammer of Cardington, OH., a brother, Harvey (Ethel) Smith of Edison, OH., a sister, Rachel Gilbert of Chula Vista, CA., numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Floyd was preceded in death by two sons, Michael F. Smith and William L. Smith, a daughter, Teresa K. Jones, and three brothers, Harold Smith, Donald Smith and Cecil Smith.
Funeral service for Floyd will be held Friday, December 31, 2010 11 AM at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home with Pastor Paul McKenzie officiating, burial will follow at Larue Cemetery with a military to honor Floyd by the Amvets Post #87. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 from 5 – 8 PM at the funeral home.
