Witten G. Howard Sr., age 81 of Cardington passed away Friday, December 24, 2010 in Olive Hill, Kentucky following an extended illness.
He was born on August 18, 1929 in Sandy Hook, Kentucky to the late Fred and Bertha (Barker) Howard.
Witten worked as a dynamite man for the former Ansu Seismic Gas and Oil Drilling in Morrow County and the surrounding area. A true outdoorsman, he loved the shade trees of Kentucky, as well as hunting and eating rabbit. His favorite pastimes were watching wrestling and fishing, especially for catfish.
He leaves to cherish his memory a proud bounty of children: Wilma (Bob) Hubbard of Cardington, Barbara Howard of Olive Hill, KY, Witten James Howard of Olive Hill, KY, Douglas Howard of Tulsa, OK, Curtis Howard of Ashley, Witten A. (Nancy) Howard of Jacksonville, FL, Tim Howard of Delaware, Witten G. Howard Jr. of Delaware, Tom Harts, April Howard of Marion, Angel Howard of Ashley, Bertha Howard of Delaware, Helen (Matt) Ritter, sister: Betty Hall of Centerburg, his loving companion of 20 years: Penny Roberts, Half-sisters: Katrina Hamilton and Katherine Bush of Kentucky, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Witten was also preceded in death by an infant daughter: Shirley, brothers: Fred, Max, and Michael Howard, as well as sisters: Floe Gallion, Laura Ackison, Freda Ball, and Mousie Jenkins.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury where services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. with Pastor J.R. Smith officiating, interment will follow in Galena Cemetery.
