John R. “Bob” Neff, age 97, of Mount Gilead and formerly of Martel, passed away Wednesday morning, February 4, 2015, at the Morrow County Hospital.
On August 27, 21917, Bob was born in Martel, the son of the late Joseph K. and Effie Kathryn (Kurtz) Neff. He graduated from Martel High School in the Class of 1937.
A proud U.S. Army Veteran, Bob served his country in Germany during World War II.
On July 2, 1943, he married Bertha Mae Williams. They shared over 62 years together before she preceded him in death on September 13, 2005.
Bob grew up on his family farm and farmed his entire life, taking care of mostly grain and beef cattle. He was also employed by North Electric in Galion for 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed spending time repairing lawn mowers for people throughout the community.
Bob was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Gilead and a very dedicated family man.
He will be dearly missed by his two daughters: Kathy (Frank) Perry of Avon Park, FL, Pat (Tom) Harden of Mount Gilead; four grandchildren: Julie (Dick) Higgins of Mount Gilead, Jason (Myung) Rogers of Parker, CO, Candace (Mike) Irwin of Mount Gilead, Samantha (Ken) Kanniard of Cardington; and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold and Eldon Neff; and a sister, Delores Lew.
Per Bob’s wishes, no services will be held. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
