Ronald N. Piatt, 70, of Lady Lake, Florida passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 at The Villages Regional Hospital.
Ron was born June 11, 1940 in Marion to the late Frank and Hazel (Hutchinson) Piatt.
He married Gloria Jean Henry August 19th, 1960 in Kirkpatrick Ohio.
Ron was a road conductor for the Erie Rail Road which he enjoyed until his injury in 1978. From then Ron owned and operated numerous businesses, including Ron’s Auto Sales in Waldo Ohio, Waldo Dairy Bar, Ashley Country Kitchen and Moo’s Purple Cow Ceramic Shop. He retired in 2009 as a custodian from Grant Middle School.
When Ron was not working he spent his time restoring old cars or having a “cold one” with his friends and family. He enjoyed traveling with his wife. Together they saw most of the 50 states. One of the highlights of their journeys was finding Casino’s to visit along the way. When not traveling, they also loved spending an afternoon together picnicking by the river and watching the boats float by.
Ron was a member of the Masonic Temple based out of Houston Texas, and also the Marion Senior Center.
Ronald is survived by his wife Gloria Jean Piatt of Lady Lake, Florida; son, John (Wendy) Piatt of North Port, Florida; daughter, JeanAnne (Mike) Cheney of Marion; grandchildren, Mandy (Kris) Knight, and Jessica Lavender; great grandchildren, Tyler and Abbey Knight, and Britney Lavender.
One sister, Betty Oldfield of Georgia; two brothers Bob (Dee) of Prospect, Ohio; Gene (Evelyn) Piatt of Upper Sandusky, and numerous special nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Randi “Nikki” Piatt; a sister Delores Wintgens, and two brothers, Carl and Harry Piatt.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2010 at Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge. Pastor Dwight Hord will officiate the service. At 2:00 p.m. friends and loved ones are invited back to JeanAnne’s home to visit with the family at 1120 Chenonceaux Drive, off of Loire Valley Drive in Chateau.
