The Marion County Board of Elections members have selected local resident John Meyer as the new Director. The appointment comes after former director David Little stepped down earlier this year.
Meyer started his career as a field service engineering performing vibration analysis and related training for heavy industry in the late 1980s. His customers included a wide range of facilities ranging from nuclear power plants to automotive final assembly plants to pet food manufacturers and NASA’s Kennedy Space Center.

Meyer has taught computer science classes as an adjunct professor at Marion Technical College and worked as an independent IT consultant through Agile Software Solutions, LLC.
Meyer has lived in Marion since 2001 when he married his wife, Linda, who teaches kindergarten at North Union Elementary School. His daughter Mary Jo, a graduate of Elgin High School, earned her BSN in 2014 and is currently work in the oncology department of a Toledo area Hospital.
Meyer said that his initial goals as the new Director will include the review and streamlining of the technology used by the board, advising how the existing voting machine fleet will be replaced in 2017 – including precinct redistricting. He said that his experience in process design will be employed to document and improve existing processes while cross training the staff to make most efficient use of personnel.
