Phyllis A. Sparks, age 64 of Delaware died peacefully at home Wednesday, January 2, 2011 surrounded by her family, after a valiant two month battle with cancer and a “I’m going to beat this” attitude.
She was born on June 7, 1946 in Galena to the late Joe “Pop” and Susie (Moodespaugh) Hubbard.
In her younger years she was a waitress with the former Lighthouse Restaurant and later worked with Ranco Industries.
Phyllis married Junior Sparks, the lead singer of the Cedar Bluff Blue Grass Band. She supported him in his musical career and assisted him and the band with numerous charity benefit’s. Together they shared 25 wonderful years until his passing in 2009.
Always fun loving and sometimes silly, she enjoyed blue grass music, playing bingo, camping, and playing cards with her family. Her favorite place was home in the company of her family. She was a wonderful cook of country dishes and her chicken and dumplings will long be remembered. Phyllis was most proud of her family and their successful accomplishments.
She leaves to cherish her memory children: Hope (Tom) Sparks of Delaware, Tom (Dawn) Daniels of Martinsburg, Jack (Tracy) Daniels of Sunbury, Shawn (Sherry) Daniels of Marysville, William (Donna M.) Sparks Jr. of Delaware, Lana Marie (James) Woods of Cincinnati, Adopted Son: Paul Darling of Delaware, 20 Grandchildren, 1 Great-granddaughter, Brother: Jack (Brenda) Hubbard of Sparta, Jean Miller of Delaware, Rhonda (Dan) Davidson of Centerburg, numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by sisters: Crystal Hubbard , Emily Friece, brother-in-law: Rudy Friece, and nephew: Shane Hubbard.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, SR’s 3 at 61, Sunbury, where services will be held Thursday 11:00 a.m. at Bloomfield Cemetery near Sparta, with Lt. Aaron Moore officiating. Following the services a meal and gathering for friends and family will follow at Sparrow Lodge, 85 Morning St in Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to funeral home to help with final expenses.
