George W. Jividen Sr., 76, of Marion

George W. Jividen SrGeorge W. Jividen Sr., age 76, of Marion and formerly of Cardington and Mount Gilead, went to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday afternoon, March 7, 2015, at the Marion General Hospital.

On September 16, 1938, George was born in Wellston, OH, the son of the late Basil William and Ruby Frances (Talbott) Jividen. He graduated from high school in Vinton County, OH.

George served his country in the U.S. Army, receiving his Honorable Discharge in October 1967. On October 8, 1965, George married Yvonne Kay Somerlot. They were married over 37 years and raised three children before she preceded him in death on April 20, 2003. On May 21, 2005, he married Martha Lua Philbrook and they have enjoyed their time together since then.

Over the years, George worked at many factories including: H.P.M., B.F. Goodrich, and Sunray Stove Company.

In his spare time, he was a wheeler and dealer of antiques. His face always lit up when he found an antique store and enjoyed going to auctions.

Above all, George’s heart was with his family and his church, Gilead Friends Church, where he had been a member since 2000. He was very involved there, especially with evangelism and missions. He had taken five short term mission trips to Jamaica teaching Bible school and presenting the plan of salvation. He mentored and was looked up to by many youth throughout the church.

George will be dearly missed by his wife, Martha, of Marion; two sons: George W. Jividen Jr. of Chandler, AZ, Kevin (Mary) Jividen of Delaware; 2 grandchildren: Julie (Shannon) Green, John (Mary) Fox; five great grandchildren; five brothers: Pastor John (Sylvia) Jividen of New Lexington, OH, Charles (Ruth) Jividen, Pastor Bob (Jenifer) Jividen, Tom (Debbie) Jividen, David (Kay) Jividen, all of McArthur, OH; a sister, Cora Mae (Philip) Pettet of Albany, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Shelley L. Jividen.

George’s family will greet friends from 3 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015, at Gilead Friends Church, 3613 Twp. Rd. 115, Mount Gilead, OH. Services celebrating his homecoming will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2015, with Pastor Brian Mosher, Pastor Bob Jividen, and Pastor John Jividen officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Windfall Cemetery.

Rather than flowers, his family requests memorial contributions be made to Gilead Friends Church or to the family to assist with medical expenses.
