Carlos F. “Corky” Thomas, 68, of Marion passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at 4:00 a.m. in the Kobacker House, Columbus, Ohio.
He was born in Marion, Ohio on September 29, 1946 to Merald E. and Donna (Frazier) Thomas.
Corky married the former Pamela L. Ritzler in Marion on February 22, 1969 and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post #584 and AmVets Post #138.
He was the owner and operator of the former Corky’s Sporting Goods Store and prior to that worked at Boise Cascade and the Marion Power Shovel Co. For the past 12 years, Corky was club manager of AmVets Post #138.
Corky had a passion for helping others that knew no bounds. He had an amazing sense of selflessness and never wanted any recognition for his acts of kindness. This made his family very proud. He was always one you could count on because in Corky’s words;”I’ve got a plan!”
Surviving along with his wife, Pam; are a son, Marc (Mary) Thomas of Marion, OH.; a daughter, Heather (Dane) Clark of Marion, OH.; three brothers, Tim (Anita) Thomas of Carrollton, GA., Mike (Phyllis) Thomas of Marion, OH., and Pat (Donna) Thomas of Marion, OH.; a sister, Judy Ishida of Florida; four grandchildren, Kyle (Sarah), Harper Lynn, Kendall Anne, and Emma; and two great grandchildren, Weslee Paul and Marlee Rae.
Corky was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Thomas.
A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor Steve deWeber in the Boyd-Born Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
