Suzanne L. Irey, 75, of Caledonia passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Partners of Marion.
Susie was born October 25, 1935 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Harold Reed and Katherine (Nagel) Dewinter.
Susie was a lifetime resident of Caledonia, Ohio where she fell in love with her husband, Dale Irey. Together they enjoyed 56 memorable years and were blessed with five children, Mike (Michelle) Irey, Jackie Mooney, Doug “Butch” (Katrina) Irey, Lou (Jay) Hildreth, Adam (Rhonda) Irey, and Pam(Chuck) Hall.
Further blessings include grandchildren, Ben and Brandi Mooney, Cody Parsell, Ashton Hildreth, Taylor and Reed Irey, Kara Lust and Ryan Ratliff, and Trevor Hall; and great grandchildren. A beloved sister and friend Nancy Green also survives.
Susie was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Chad Parsell, and Mallory Hildreth.
Being a mother was clearly Susie’s calling and purpose in life. Known for her extraordinary cooking and baking skills, her kitchen was her haven from which came such favorites as ham loaf, cranberry salad, potato soup, carmels, cheesecakes, and cookies galore. Her creative abilities were shared whether she was knitting sweaters or painting ceramic pieces, always to give as gifts to her loved ones. Holidays were a time of great joy for Susie as she labored to prepare just the right meal and purchase just the right gifts for every family member. Being of a kind and gentle spirit, Susie had the ability to demonstrate unconditional love. This attribute will be a cherished memory and is considered the greatest gift given to her family over the years.
The family will share time with friends Friday, January 14, 2011 from 4-8 PM at Caledonia Memorial United Methodist Church. Reverend Tom Orr will officiate the service. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15 at 11 AM at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Caledonia Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Boyd-Born Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Susie may be made to Ohio State University Medical Center, or to a charity of donor’s choice.
