Donald Chester Zimak, 70, of Marion, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 unexpectedly at his home.
He was born on November 19, 1940 to the late Chester and Agnes (Pavik) Zimak in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania.
On December 13, 1986, he was married to his wife, Judy Zimak and recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary in December.
In 1959, he graduated from Washington High School and later joined the Air Force. He worked at J.G. Clark as a supervisor for 28 years before retiring. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 889, Eagles 337, and attended Forest Lawn Presbyterian Church. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching the Steelers and the Pirates.
He is also survived by his two sisters, Carol (Walter) Hanmerlee and Arlene (Gene) Puch I; brother, Gary (Genaldine) Zimak; He was loved very much by his son, Donnie (Doren) Zimak of Washington, Pennsylvania; and daughter, Mary Zimak and fiance, Steve of Waxhaw, North Carolina. Donald has extended family, Brenda Davis and Carl Everly, Shari Tramontana and companion Jeff Kirkpatrick, Pam and Jim Buckner, Angie and David Hughes, Jeff Kern, and Dennis Kern and companion Teresa Simon. His grandkids, Jessica and Donald Zimak of Pennsylvania, Brittanie and Brian Wudkwych of North Carolina, Tony and Shon Tramontana of Ohio, Nichole Holycross, Westley Davis, Kellie Mitchell, Heather, Austin and Bridgit Kern and Brandon Hughes all from Ohio; great grandkids, Caden and Colton Sterritt of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by granddaughters Brittanie and Michelle Kern.
He loved his cats, Precious and Inky; and dogs, Gretchen and Hans.
In his honor, he is being carried by pallbearers, Donald Zimak, Brian Wudkwych, Westley Davis, Tony and Shon Tramontana, Jeff and Dennis Kern and Brandon Hughes.
Family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors, 347 West Center Street, Marion, Ohio 43302. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January, 21, 2011 in the funeral home with Pastor Richard Mickley officiating. Private burial to follow at a later date.
