Lois Burkett Greiman Thorne, 79, of Marion

Lois Burkett Greiman ThorneLois Burkett Greiman Thorne, age 79, of Marion, went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, May 24, 2015, at the Kindred Care Center following an extended illness.

On August 31, 1935, Lois was born in Hellier, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Bruce and Sylvia (Mullins) Sykes.

In the late 1950’s, Lois moved to Marion and began working at Freezer Queen Foods in Nevada, where she was for over ten years.  Next, she worked for the Whirlpool Corporation as an assembler for over twenty years until she was forced to retire and have back surgery of a condition she had had since birth.

Through a mutual friend, Lois was introduced to James Thorne, who was working with their friend at Groll’s Furniture at the time.  Soon thereafter, Lois and Jim were married on October 24, 1997, in Florida.

A woman of faith, Lois was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

An avid reader, Lois loved reading various fiction novels, especially if they were thrillers written by either James Patterson or more preferably Patricia Cornwell.

With a love for flowers, Lois enjoyed flower gardening when she was able.  She had a deep sense of appreciation for the little things in life, and she enjoyed those little things during her “peace and quite time.”

Having a heart of gold, Lois loved being there for her family helping in any way she could.  She also loved spending time with her grandson, Josh, who endearingly called her “Momall,” with Jim’s grandchildren, who endearingly called her “Gram-ma.”

Lois will be dearly missed by her loving husband, James Thorne; her son-in-law, David Little; a grandson, Josh Little, all three of Marion; two step-children: Trudy (Mark) Storer, of Scottsdale, AZ, and their children: Jacob, Joshua, Jared and Morgan Storer; and James “J.R.” (Jamie) Thorne, of Fredericktown, and their children: Macy & Taylor Thorne; two sisters-in-law: Betty Sykes of Marion, and Mary (Tony) Long of Myrtle Beach, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her prior husband, Clifford Greiman, in 1988; daughter, Linda Johnston; son, Ron Burkett; two brothers: Eugene and Bobby Sykes; and two sisters: Ruby Sprinkle and Cuba Turner.

Her family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 28th,at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion.  Services celebrating her life and homegoing will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, at the Grace Baptist Church (address below), Rev. Nicholas Worden officiating.  Burial will follow in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Brush Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Church, 1560 Marion Marysville Rd., Marion, Ohio 43302, or Acclaim Hospice, 1199 Delaware Ave., #102, Marion, OH 43302.
